I find that at the core of it all, the law of attraction must become a way of life. You are meant not to only use the law of attraction as a periodic tool to get what you want, but you are meant to become the deliberate creator of your life. And when I say the deliberate creator of your life, I mean of every part of your life, from the smallest preference, to the biggest dream.
Unfortunately, I find that many people are just using it for one or two big goals, but the rest of their lives remain perfectly ordinary, unaltered by the magical potential available to them.
So in this post, I’ll discuss how to become the deliberate creator of your life, by using the law of attraction to its full potential.
The Non-Magical Way of Living
As children, we come into this life with innate knowledge of how to create. Children are excellent at creating, because they can put their focus almost exclusively on what it is they want, until they are trained out of that habit.
Over the years, they learn to put more stock in what authority says, than what their own soul says. And, most authority is very much based in fear and scarcity consciousness, if you haven’t noticed.
This divide is obviously painful, but most don’t see a way out of it. Some simply surrender to it, seeing it as the way life is. Others rebel against it, and are seen and treated as “problem children”.
A very few, though increasing number, see through it, and simply don’t allow authority to dictate how their lives should go. They may also be grouped in with the “problem children”, but they don’t allow this to define them, either.
For the first two groups, life becomes totally non-magical. It becomes a matter of doing what you need to do to get by.
We’re Not Meant to Just Get By
The thing is, we’re not meant to just “get by”. Our souls feel this inherently. Such an attitude is deeply unfulfilling. It leads to emptiness, and often even depression. We think, “What’s the point?”
I remember being a child and being told, in so many words, that what I wanted didn’t matter and wasn’t realistic. I wanted to work for myself. I wanted to be my own authority. I wanted to do something in the field of spirituality and metaphysics.
Of course, all that ended up happening. I just had to work through quite a few limiting beliefs before it could. 🙂
The Universe never judges us. But, we’re not meant to just suppress our own soul-level desires.
It’s sort of sad to me, really. We come in as powerful, infinite creators. Through conditioning, we believe ourselves victims of circumstance, being tossed about on the sea of life.
Again, that is okay. It’s all okay. But, it’s not ideal. And, it’s not nourishing to our souls.
You are meant to live as a deliberate creator—to raise your mast and sail wherever you want. It’s okay if you aren’t doing that right now, but it’s also painful, isn’t it? It’s painful to deny your true nature.
The Law of Attraction Isn’t a Stopgap Solution
For millennia, people have practiced magic or witchcraft as a way to alter the reality around them. Recently it has become popularized, and named “the law of attraction”. But as I’ve mentioned before, they are very much the same thing, just with different terminology.
Taking on the magical way of living isn’t easy, at least initially. It takes a complete paradigm shift.
So what I notice a lot of people doing is just applying the law of attraction in specific areas of life. They want a better job, so they work on manifesting that. Or, they want a relationship, so they work on manifesting that.
The law of attraction essentially becomes the last resort of “How I can get what I want when it seems impossible.” After all, if the path were clear, then we wouldn’t need the law of attraction, right? We’d just take the necessary steps and it’d be done.
But only using the law of attraction when you really need it is sort of like only speaking a foreign language when you absolutely need to. Follow my analogy for a moment.
Imagine you’d like to become fluent in French. However, the only time you ever speak French is when you are faced with a French person who doesn’t know English. Otherwise, you revert to English, and never even practice speaking French.
In other words, you only speak French when you absolutely have to—when there’s no other choice.
But, you’re never going to master French like that. Your brain won’t develop the necessary neural pathways to make it easy for you. You’ll always remain at the beginner level, because you aren’t making it a way of life.
And that’s how the law of attraction is. If you only use it when you run into a situation where you absolutely need it, you aren’t ever going to get beyond the beginner stage to the expert stage.
Most of the issues I run into with others are, no offense, beginner issues. Issues with trusting in the process, issues with knowing how to let go, issues with overcoming fear, etc.
Obviously that’s okay, but it’s not very useful for you. These are all common issues that will become easier and easier as you master the law of attraction.
You’re holding yourself at a disadvantage by not allowing the law of attraction to become a way of life. If it were used not just for the emergencies, or for the big desires, but also for all the small everyday desires, then those big desires would become so much easier.
Being a Deliberate Creator Requires a Paradigm Shift
As I said above, this definitely requires a paradigm shift. This shift, however, isn’t so accessible to you if you insist on keeping one foot in the “normal”, non-magical way of doing things, “just in case”. It’s only available if you dedicate fully to living a magical life as a deliberate creator.
What is this paradigm shift, exactly? It is this: moving from seeing the world as based on matter, to seeing it as one based on consciousness. Moving from seeing matter as primary, to seeing consciousness as primary.
The materially-based paradigm says this: “In order to get what I want, there has to be a sequence of material causes and effects to reach that desire. A has to lead to B, which has to lead to C.”
For instance, if you want more money, you might think:
First I have to get a job, or get a promotion at my current job, or convince my boss to give me a raise. Then I can get more money. So, if I want more money, I have to put in the work to get a job / promotion / raise.
Do you see how this is materially-based? If you don’t put in that effort, then you won’t achieve your goal of more money. You’re making the goal depend on the physical actions that you take, or sometimes the pure luck of all the right circumstances lining up. Still, the circumstances lead to the desired outcome.
Look at your own life, and see whether you haven’t been using the materially-based paradigm, at least in certain situations.
Now the consciousness paradigm says this:
If I want more money, I have to make more money part of my consciousness. I have to become the one who has more money, in my consciousness first, before it can be reflected on the outside. Once I have embodied it on the inside, then all the circumstances will line up to make it happen. I don’t even care about the circumstances, because they are just unnecessary detail.
Do you see the difference? In this example, consciousness is primary. Consciousness is what drives reality, not action. Without consciousness where it needs to be first, all the action in the world wouldn’t make a difference.
I know this sounds simple enough, because this is what the law of attraction teaches. But, is it how you actually approach your life? Do you approach it as consciousness-first, not action-first? Do you say to yourself, “First I have to line up with this desire, before I do anything on the outside,” or do you rely on action to make up that difference?
Being the deliberate creator of your life means that you jump in with both feet. You live your life fully believing that consciousness is primary, and practicing that as well.
Only using the law of attraction some of the time will not allow you to fully make this shift. It has to be a moment-by-moment awareness. I’m not saying to always keep it in mind every minute of the day, but simply that you are constantly aware of your own inner state and what you are currently holding in consciousness, and that you hold this to have more importance than any actions you might be taking on the outside.
Making the Transition to the New Paradigm
So how do you make the transition to becoming the deliberate creator of your life? I have a few simple tips to make the transition easier:
1. Overcome Your Doubts
First it requires overcoming any nagging doubts that the law of attraction is really true. I know how these doubts are, because as I’ve said before, I’m a cynic to the extreme. No matter how much you might try to make this work, there’s still a part of you that is saying, “Yeah, right. Just get in there and do it the traditional way.”
Those doubts are natural. But, you have to try to the best of your ability to not listen to them. Otherwise, if you only commit partially, just in case the LOA thing doesn’t work, well you can’t fully make that shift.
2. Make It a Part of Your Everyday Life
Next, you have to make it a part of your everyday life. Don’t just use it for your big, next level goals. As I said earlier, just using it for these bigger desires will not give you the practice and confidence you need to actually make those big goals easier for you.
So, use it to smooth out your everyday life. Take a moment to feel good about an upcoming meeting. Visualize yourself having a productive day. Set the intention to find the resources you need to accomplish some task.
These seem trivial, and perhaps they are. But why not use the law of attraction for these small, everyday goals as well? It will help quite a bit, and you’ll be building confidence for bigger and bigger goals.
3. Pay Attention to Your Emotions
Your emotions are one of the most important elements of living as a deliberate creator.
So, I recommend keeping constant mindfulness of your emotions. Recognize when negative emotions arise—not to push them away or deny them, but to give them room to process and then to turn your attention to the positive. It should be a very seamless, easy, effortless process.
Keep in mind the power that your emotions have. I think if more of us realized the power of our emotions, we would be much more careful about them. Even mild irritation, when left unchecked, can spiral into one negative manifestation after another, each of which is more irritating than the last.
4. Exercise Your Will
Magically-speaking, the will is absolutely the most important element of creating your own reality. Yet for some reason, I find it often totally ignored in common LOA teachings. But without the will, you can’t move energy towards your goal. It is the force that makes the whole system work. It is the catalyst. It is the spark.
It takes courage to exercise your will, but start practicing today and it’ll get much easier. What is it you choose for yourself? Exercise your will, and your power as a deliberate creator, and make it happen. Only when you choose with your will, will the Universe move to fulfill your desire.
Magicians are often seen to be arrogant, almost as though they are the center of the Universe. But why not? I don’t think it’s as much arrogance, as the courage to use their will, and that is very unusual in today’s society. We encourage humility and passivity, so when someone is bold and willful, we think them arrogant.
Be the center of your Universe, because you absolutely are. Boldly choose what your reality will look like, because you have the power to do so.
How About You?
Now it’s your turn. Have you made this paradigm shift to being the deliberate creator of your life? If not, what obstacles are keeping you from doing so? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
